Who we Are
The Happy Home Sanctuary was established in 2012, under the aegis of People For Animals Uttarakhand (PFA Uttarakhand) in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The State’s first & only no-cage, no-tie sanctuary houses equines, cats, sheep and hens, all rescued from either abject abuse or abandonment. The sanctuary is constructed to provide open space, with species appropriate and disability-friendly infrastructure.
People For Animals Uttarakhand (PFA Uttarakhand), charitable trust, has been working relentlessly for setting up sustainable systems for welfare of all animals. The Happy Home Sanctuary is one part of this sustainable system. We participate actively in the problem solving exercise with the Government and design sustainable and humane solutions for all animal cruelty and conflict situations.
Our work pans across the country, having evolved to encompass capacity building for various stakeholders, policy reform, animal welfare advocacy, public awareness and direct care.
Through PFA Uttarakhand’s continued efforts of working closely with the Central and State Governments as well as other animal welfare organisations, we have achieved certain significant milestones in the field of animal welfare.
Capacity building of law enforcement and judicial agencies constitute a core aspect of our work towards sensitizing administrative, regulatory and judicial personnel about the issue of animal welfare and the relevant laws, further strengthening the animal protection framework in India.
Through the efforts of the organisation over many years, several new legislations to protect animal welfare and regulate trade in animals have been promulgated by the Government of India. We continue to assist the and support the implementation of animal protection laws nation-wide.
